Abstract
Raw cane sugar production in the Huatusco region, Veracruz, México, is commercialized according to the original sales price, which is determined based on quality criteria established by intermediaries, reducing its value significantly; this aspect seems to influence the profitability and competitiveness of this agroindustry. This study analyzes the competitiveness and comparative advantage of raw cane sugar production under the technologies of electric motor and diesel motor, through the methodology of the Policy Analysis Matrix (PAM) and its indicators. The results show that this agroindustrial activity is competitive at the national level, although without comparative advantage in its two technologies, which implies that this agroindustry is favored by the incentive policies.
