Abstract

The information about the composition of ingredients that are used in animal diets in México can be consulted in different types of sources: manuals for producers, animal nutrition books, undergraduate and graduate theses, articles in scientific journals or extension magazines, and in lab reports of livestock diet analysis, whether by public or private institutions. The dispersion of data regarding the composition of an ingredient or food makes access to these difficult, generating the need to compile them in an information system (IS) that can also provide its metadata. In México there is not a Database of Food Composition (DFC) for animal diets connected to an IS with open access on the web, capable of being updated and reliable. The objective of this study is to present the design and development of the Ingredient Composition for Animal Diets in México IS (SI de Composición de Ingredientes para
la Alimentación Animal en México, SI_CIAAM) and its website, which will offer services to different types of users: livestock producers and technicians, animal nutrition specialists, students, researchers, among
others.
