Abstract

Objective: Identify the dominant and desired organizational cultures of the academic community

Design/methodology/approach: The Organizational Culture Assessment Instrument (OCAI) questionnaire was administered to 28 academics using a pragmatic methodology based on systems theory.

Results: The results show a predominant hierarchical culture, although there is a strong aspiration toward a clan-like culture

Limitations on study/implications: The results suggest that promoting a clan-like organizational culture in hierarchical institutions can strengthen commitment, cohesion, and organizational effectiveness, but requires flexible leadership and well-structured change strategies

Findings/conclusions: It is concluded that a transition toward more collaborative organizational structures could strengthen institutional identity, cohesion, and effectiveness. Further studies on organizational resilience and dynamic capabilities are recommended
