Abstract
This review describes the existing phytoremediation alternatives that rely on strong scientific basis and at the same time are accepted by the public in general. Although the information is focused on potentially toxic elements (PTE), the basic scientific knowledge available can be applied to the remediation of sites with other contamination problems and to deteriorated or marginal sites.
