Abstract

The livestock production organizations have been a means to foster productivity and competitiveness in the rural sector in many countries, and studying them allows understanding their functioning, powers and challenges. The case of a group of sheep producers was analyzed in Valle de Tulancingo, Hidalgo, México, through a study of its value network, with the aim of designing a strategic agenda to improve their competitiveness. Problems of organizational, commercial and transparency nature were detected. A decreasing registry of partners was found, limited services offered, genetic improvement practices not adopted by all the partners, in addition to sales concentration. To solve this, actions for strengthening were recommended, including the components of organization, commerce and genetic improvement. The strategy had to consider the technical adoption of the seven principles of cooperation, service diversification, technical training and technological transference, broadening of certification
processes, proposal of a business model, and sales diversification. It was concluded that the livestock producing organization contributes slightly to improve the competitiveness of the partners, so the suggestion was made to adopt organizational principles, commercial strategies, and a proposal for definite value.
