Abstract
Strategic planning allows analyzing, evaluating, proposing and modifying social and economic patterns. The theoretic variables that explain competitiveness in the pineapple zone of the municipalities of Juan Rodríguez Clara and Isla, Veracruz, México were evaluated in this research. The study used agricultural statistics from the Agriculture Ministry (SAGARPA), in addition to information obtained in a field study with a sample of 313 pineapple producers. An index was developed to express competitiveness, using a principal component factorial analysis created through the use of factors organized from the information analyzed. It was determined that with the goal of increasing producers’ competitiveness, it is necessary to improve technical assistance and the commercialization process. The general models that authors of strategic planning define cannot be applied without identifying the needs for each territory. The creation of specific models for the analysis of competitiveness contributes to the identification of particular needs of each region.
