Abstract

The Priority Attention Microregion (Microrregión de Atención Prioritaria, MAP) is a defined geographic area in the low hill region of the municipality of Paso de Ovejas, Veracruz, México, whose principal agroecologic and socioeconomic characteristics are severely low water levels that determine agricultural cycles, marginalization, and low prices for agricultural producers. There are correlation actions being developed in the MAP, which connect rural actors with the goal of improving their living conditions through project design and the participation of research and development groups made up of producers, researchers, students and professional service providers, involving local actions and resources to improve the use of water through alternative sources of energy, maize cultivation, livestock production, selling points for live sea bream and family gardens, among other actions. Six interdisciplinary academic teams lead these projects with the participation of more than 200 producers divided into 36 work groups.
