Abstract
The objective of this study was to evaluate the type of comb (simple or rose) in the progeny of Creole roosters with rose comb (Gallus gallus domesticus L.). Two groups, each one made up of one rooster with rose comb and nine hens with simple comb were used to evaluate the percentage of hatching, type of comb (simple or rose) and initial weight of the progeny. Twenty-two (22) eggs were collected from each group randomly, which were incubated by Creole turkey hens (Meleagris gallopavus L.) during 21 d. The percentage of hatching was 70.5 % (31 eggs hatched from 44). Of the progeny, 55% presented simple comb and 45 % pink comb. The chickens with rose comb showed similar (P>0.05) initial weight than the chickens with simple comb (39.3 vs 37.6±1.9 g). The results from this study suggest that when crossing hens with simple comb with roosters with rose comb, both types of combs can be seen in the progeny, without presenting a difference in initial weight.
