Abstract

Defining the optimums, technical and economic, is carried out to make recommendations that generate the maximum level in production and provide a higher monetary benefit, establishing the amounts of different inputs that should be applied. According to the microeconomic theory, each one of the variables should be measured optimally, and both analyses can mark the difference between the point of profitability and the failure of a productive unit. The economic and technical optimums for maize production were determined under rainfed conditions in Estado de México, through a sample of 171 productive units in eight municipalities. A classification of statistically significant variables was obtained, which allows estimating a cubic production function and defining the technical and economic optimums, showing the amounts to recommend for production. The variables of time of machinery use, kilograms of phosphorus, and type of seed are the ones that determined the maize yield to a greater extent.
