Abstract

Objective:Analyze scientific information about Moringa oleifera Lam, its current uses and potentials that support its food uses both human and animal, medicinal, as water clarifier, biofuel production and biofertilizers.


Design/methodology/approach:A review of literature on the uses of Moringa oleifera in general was made, among the keywords for the search of the information were: Moringa oleifera, food with Moringa oleifera, potential uses of Moringa oleifera. We chose 32 scientific articles from 2010 to date to have more up-to-date information on the subject, more than 80% corresponded to high-impact databases journals such as Springer, Elsevier, Jstor, etc.


Results:  Several uses of Moringa oleifera were determined, in human nutrition, animal feed, for the treatment of diseases, for the treatment of water, as a biofertilizer and bioinsecticides.


Limitations on study/implications: Although there is research on the nutritional amount of Moringa oleifera Lam., And the benefits it brings to human food, more research is needed to determine the dose of consumption because excessive doses can cause adverse effects to the human system.


Findings/conclusions: The potential of Moringa oleifera Lam. Has been demonstrated in various areas, considered a potential resource as a promoter of sustainable development and improvement of social welfare in rural and urban areas.
