EVALUATION OF HIGUERILLA COLLECTORS (Ricinus communis L.) FROM THE CENTRAL-NORTHERN ALTIPLANO OF MEXICO

Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the morphology and phenology of a seed collection carried out in 20 sites, from the states of Aguascalientes, Jalisco, San Luis Potosí and Zacatecas


Design/methodology/approach: The collections were established in a drip irrigation system to support their development, applying daily irrigations with a duration of 15 minutes each and using drippers of 4 L h-1. The sowing was done in pots, after 52 days the transplant was done in the field, under an experimental design of randomized complete blocks. The height and number, width and length of the leaves were evaluated, the reproductive development was also characterized, the seed yield and its oil content were estimated.


Results: Based on seed production (g per plant), the best values ??were observed in the collections of Luis Moya (883.7), Encarnación de Díaz (536.1) and Francia Chica (456.2). The highest seed weight was for Salinas de Hidalgo with 1.57 g. As for the highest oil content (%) were Encarnación de Díaz (57.3) and Tepezalá (54.8); these also presented the highest values ??in height, number of leaves, leaf width and leaf length.


Limitations on study/implications: The collections present diversity in their morphological and physiological characteristics, for which it is necessary several years of field work to choose the best phenotypes.


Findings/conclusions: Outstanding are the collections of Luis Moya and Encarnación de Díaz for their production of seed and oil content.
