Abstract

This paper summarizes the causes and consequences of the emission of Greenhouse Gases (GHG) and climate change. It emphasizes livestock production as one of the main contributors to GHG emission and therefore to climate change. The IPCC recommendation is resumed, to use agroforestry as a method of mitigation. The positive effects on the environment caused by agroforestry (carbon capture and environmental services) are mentioned, as well as the agroecological principles on which livestock agroforestry in arid zones in our country should be based, as well as the scientific challenges to substantiate it.
