Abstract
Throughout the last decades, tourism has developed as one of the main activities that potentiate the world economy. This activity has positioned itself as a niche opportunity for the least developed countries, as well as a strategic axis to combat poverty and marginalization in rural communities that are detached from the industrial and urban context. In its alternative version emerged in the nineties, accompanied by different environmental discourses, the most obvious typologies are ecotourism, adventure tourism and rural tourism; In light of this, this text shows how these models have expanded in different geographical contexts in the Yucatan Peninsula in recent years, with the outpouring of initiatives since before 1994 and their development in 2016.
