Abstract

The tuberose (Polianthes tuberosa) is a cut flower of importance in Morelos for its considerable economic and social impact, however, its production is affected by the bulb rot, caused by phytopathogenic bacteria. Actinomycetes as biocontrol agents are recognized for their ability to produce bioactive compounds with antimicrobial activity. Its isolation can be benefited with treatments such as enrichment of the growth substrate or thermal treatment to the soil. The aim of this work was to isolate actinomycetes in the rhizosphere of tuberose two town of the state of Morelos, México, as potential biocontrol agents of soft rot of tuberose. For the isolation of actinomycetes, the soil samples were treated with CaCO3 and temperature at 60 °C. The culture media for isolation were ISP2 and AIA. We isolated 280 actinomycetes from Emiliano Zapata and 179 from Mazatepec. We obtained 20 morphologies and 10 unique isolates in both municipalities. These isolates could be used as antagonists for the control of soft rot of the bulb in tuberose.
