Abstract
In Latin America and México, the mountainous mesophyll forest withstands strong pressure from human activities that provoke its irreversible loss. In Veracruz, México, this effect has advanced rapidly and the change is accentuated in the Huatusco region. When there are problems of deforestation, it is necessary to provide alternatives for the conservation of existing natural resources in small forests located on the periphery of the municipality. A feasible option to conserve areas that are still not degraded is the promotion of sites destined to recreation, maintenance of biological diversity and quality of the landscape, as well as to educating the new generations about the forest, highlighting most of all the importance of its conservation. This study describes the process of creation of the “Chicalaba” ecological park as an
alternative for the conservation and management of a green area located in a peripheral area of the city of Huatusco, Veracruz, México.
