Abstract

Within the terminology used in phytoremediation, there are many ambiguous terms that frequently lead to confusion in the scientific community language about the interpretation, discussion, transmission and application of information about the theme, as well as the diffusion of the phytoremediation technologies to other sectors of society. In this study we attempt to clarify the use and meaning of the most common terms with the aim of adopting objective, clear, correct and standardized terminology related to contamination and phytoremediation of sites polluted with potentially toxic elements, also known commonly as heavy metals
