Abstract

Objective: Compare a standard starter feed (Milkiwean) with a starter feed formulated under the concept of digestion kinetics and absorption of nutrients (Milkiwean Kinetio) in pigs. Methodology: 440 pigs (initial body weight 6.4±0.83 kg and 22 d of age) were assigned according to a completely randomized design. The treatments consisted of the dietary evaluation of two starter feeds (Milkiwean® and Milkiwean Kinetio®). Results: Body weight gain, final body weight and feed intake were higher with the standard feed (P=0.08); although feed conversion was better with Milkiwean kinetio (P=0.001). The cost per kg of pork produced was lower with Milkiwean kinetio. Implications: Research about the synchronization (digestion and absorption) of nutrients from ingredients used in pig production needs to be generated. Findings/conclusions: Pig diets formulation considering nutrient digestion kinetics has the potential to optimize dietary nutrients.
