Abstract
Cultivation of sugar cane (Saccharum spp.) in México historically presents yields that do not allow sufficient profitability. Therefore, a project was developed at a national scale to train field technicians from 10 sugar plants that belong to the Trust for Companies Expropriated from the Sugar Sector (Fideicomiso de Empresas Expropiadas del Sector Azucarero, FEESA), as well as technicians from producers’ organizations, with the aim of transferring technology to the Model for High Profitability
in Sugar Cane, to induce the formation of Sugar Cane Compact Units for High Profitability and Technological Transference (Unidades Compactas Cañeras para Alta Rentabilidad y Transferencia Tecnológica, UCCARETT). The development period was 2011 and 2012 through theoretical-practical training workshops, technically evaluating 90 sugar cane plots. The results achieved were: six workshops on sustainable sugar cane production, six on induction to the High Profitability Model, five regional theme workshops, four workshops on efficient use of water for sugar cane irrigation, and one workshop on the integrated system to recommend fertilizer doses (Sistema integrado para recomendar dosis de fertilizantes, SIRDF) for sugar cane; in total, 112 training events and 1,129 professional field technicians.
